Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, daughter of deposed strongman Ferdinand Marcos, vehemently denied that she had contributed money for President Rodrigo Duterte’s presidential campaign.
Marcos made the denial in light of PRRD’s admission that she was one of his big donors of campaign funds. “Wala akong barangay captain, wala akong congressman, wala akong pera. Si Imee pa nagbigay. Sabi niya, inutang daw niya. Si Imee supported me,” Duterte said.
A check of Duterte’s Statement of Campaign Contributions and Expenses (SOCE) submitted to the COMELEC showed that Marcos’ name was not listed as a contributor, contrary to election laws.
“Walang katotohanan yun. Palabiro si President Duterte,” Marcos said. The Ilocos Norte Governor said she only supported Duterte by campaigning for him, and that her support did not mean that a deal was struck regarding her father’s burial at the Libingan ng ma Bayani, which Duterte favors. “Sa pulitika, di ako naniniwala sa mga deal,” she added.
